Pulmonary Function Testing

Measuring how well your lungs work

Breathing tests give objective, reliable information about your lungs — essential for an accurate diagnosis and for tracking response to treatment.

Why lung function tests matter

Symptoms such as breathlessness and cough can have many causes. Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) measure how much air your lungs hold, how quickly you can move air in and out, and how well oxygen passes into your blood.

The results help distinguish asthma from COPD, detect restrictive lung disease such as ILD, assess fitness before surgery, and show whether treatment is working.

Tests may be advised for

  • Persistent cough or breathlessness
  • Asthma and COPD diagnosis
  • Monitoring interstitial lung disease
  • Pre-operative assessment
  • Smokers with symptoms
  • Occupational lung exposure
